That left the Sharks five points in front, and despite Leinster digging deep and throwing everything at the Sharks' defence as time ticked away, the home side stood stubbornly firm and claimed a thrilling victory. Humidity as well as high temperatures will make the contest all the more energy-sapping. And Cullen said his unit will relish the challenge.

Ciaran Frawley added three to Leinster's tally with a penalty before a stunning try pushed them further ahead. Frawley was again at the centre of the action as his delightful crossfield pass found Tommy O'Brien who simply sped over the line to grab another try for Leinster. There was to be a response from the Sharks before half-time, however, as full back Aphelele Fassi caught a deep Leinster kick and returned it with interest on the run. After breezing through the gap, he offloaded to Jaden hendrikse who was able to run it in for the try. Bosch's extras were good which left the home side trailing 14-17 at the break.

Frawley continued on in the same vein with his kicking in the second half, and his 43rd minute penalty pushed Leinster six clear. After 50 minutes, the Sharks produced once again to claim their first lead. It was a simple lineout maul which put them within striking distance before Bongi Mbonambi grounded decisively. That lead barely lasted two minutes however, as the home side's ill-discipline led to another chance from a placed kick for Frawley which he duly converted. Speaking of ill-discipline, Leinster had Josh Murphy and Lee Barron sin binned within a seven minute period; Murphy heading off in the 54th minute and Barron in the 61st.
