Beer parlour everyday. Clubbing every Friday. Viewing centre always. Smoke joints every Saturday. Betting centre everyday. All those excessive habits that ruined our savings/lives - we now see/know that we can survive without them - - - thanks to COVID 19! Let us develop new and better habits. Let us be better persons when COVID-19 ends! We no longer have an excessive display of wealth every weekend celebrating this or that, what we used to call our Culture. We should reflect on those things we have come to see as our culture which in real terms destroyed us, and add no value to us as a people. Other people in other climes invest time and resource in reading/studying, researching in the laboratory, and creating, pondering over problems and possible solutions to them. Here, we waste our time and resources on things that have no meaning. We travel hundreds of kilometers, taking risks, just to go and have plates of food and some bottles of drinks wasting resources for events you really cannot pinpoint the value! It is time to rethink. Culture is not static. Culture is dynamic. In an Arab Cemetry, fewer than ten relations attend burial, no drumming, no gymnastics with the coffin of the dead by those Funeral Home Dramatists who shows no respect to the dead. No lavish feasting and drinking and that obnoxious and nauseating display of wealth in front of a musician. Since COVID 19 came, many dead have been given private burials in these past months, naming ceremonies done, birthdays marked, marriages done - all these decently done without noise and pomp and we are still what we are. I am just thinking aloud. This may be time to rethink all of these. Who knows we may not need to go into debt again for a marriage ceremony, birthday parties, bury a relation just because we want to be Society Compliant. Birthdays can be quietly celebrated with a few loved ones and weddings could be quietly solemnized at the church or registry without taxing people, or stealing government funds or defraud the company you work with just to satisfy the society. Let us rethink how we live our lives Culture is not static, after all, we changed from our Traditional African Religions, we changed from our mostly rural agrarian economy, etc, so we can change Our Present Way of Life for Better post-COVID 19.
